Being part vampire and the Prauvs, he has many special powers: telepathy, hovering, super speed and strength, mind control, and tracking skills. He has black hair that falls in his face sometimes, pale skin, lean, and he mostly dresses in black so he gets called goth a lot. Vlad is mature and being both human and vampire, he understands both kinds.
At school he is bullied by Bill and Tom. His best friend is a boy he met when he was 8 named Henry. He had a crush on a girl named Meredith since the 4th grade but when he mets a girl named Snow his feelings start to change. He even has a secret hideout in Bathory's High School Belfry where he keeps his fathers books on vampires and journals.
He is often depressed through the book. He blames himselfs for his parents' death and misses them a lot, his so-called friend named Joss betrays him, and he had to break up with the girl of his dreams in order to protect her from himself. In the fourth book, Joss (once his friend and a vampire slayer) is coming back to town. He left two years ago after putting Vlad in the hospital and almost killing him. Now Joss is coming to kill Vlad for sure. A powerful vampire named Dorian has an overpowering desire to drink his blood. His archenemy, a vampire named D'Ablo, has brought his Uncle Otis (also a vampire and met him in the first book) to trial for crimes against vampirekind. If he looses his trial he looses his life. So if you think you life sucks, try being a teenage vampire.
